What People Are Saying About Life Connections

Building Trust

“Life Connections was the missing piece of the puzzle to my son’s mental and emotional needs.  Life Connections was able to quickly build trust and a friendship that allowed my son to feel safe and to open up to.  Having a second source and professional help outside of family and teachers was necessary to teach coping mechanisms and reaction skills.  My son can use these new skill sets in his daily life and in his future as he grows, whether these situations become his daily routine or arise unexpectedly.  The positive benefit that Life Connections provided to my son can were almost seen immediately, in daily routines at school, home, and during his many sport activities.”

Effective Treatment & Dedication

“Over ongoing sessions, our therapist has effectively addressed a range of issues and behavioral challenges, providing valuable tools for coping and growth. Her expertise and compassionate approach have made a significant positive impact on my daughter’s well-being. Grateful for her dedication and professionalism in helping our daughter thrive.”

Meet Our CEO

Alyssa Hennings, MA, LMHC

Alyssa’s career with Life Connections began in April of 2014. She began as a Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) counselor and is now our CEO! Alyssa is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and provides individual counseling, couples counseling, and family therapy. She also completes assessment for BHIS. In 2013, Alyssa graduated from Loras College with her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a minor in biology. In 2016, she received her Master of Arts degree in psychology. While in college, Alyssa worked in a group home with children who had behavioral and developmental diagnoses, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorders. Alyssa transitioned from that role into behavioral support at an alternative agency working with children diagnosed with Conduct Disorder and had truancy concerns. Alyssa joined Horizons, a Family Service Alliance Team, in 2013 as a BHIS provider, which later merged with Life Connections.

Alyssa specializes in play therapy and is working toward becoming a registered play therapist. She is also experienced in treating trauma, depression, and anxiety. Alyssa utilizes person-centered therapy techniques, meeting clients where they are and building upon their strengths. She is trained to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She also utilizes aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which focuses on values-based living and accepting uncomfortable emotions. Alyssa draws on aspects of each modality in order to create a customized treatment plan in collaboration with the client, focused upon their unique experiences and goals.
