About Jacob Sandoval, PhD, LMFT

Jacob (he/him/his) joined Life Connections in Muscatine in July of 2020. Jacob is a licensed marriage and family therapist (tLMFT). He provides individual counseling, couples counseling, and family therapy. He also does assessments for Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS). Jacob is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the National Council for Family Relations (NCFR), and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Jacob earned a bachelor’s degree in family studies and a second in youth and family ministry from Lubbock Christian University in 2017. He earned his master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Abilene Christian University in 2019. Jacob received his PhD in couple and family therapy in 2023 at the University of Iowa and obtained a sex therapist/sexuality educator certificate through the University of Michigan. 

Jacob specializes in LGBTQIA+ needs and related issues, sex therapy, and sexuality education for all ages. He is also a certified Prepare/Enrich marital and premarital program facilitator. Jacob uses experiential, collaborative, and systemic approaches to partner with individuals, couples, and families that seek to introduce change into their lives. He often uses an integrated approach including internal family systems (IFS), narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and techniques from play therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy. He works with all populations, including children as young as 6 years old through elderly clients. Jacob believes that all people are capable of making change in their lives. From a systemic view, change is often most effective when the family system works together but is still able to happen for individuals. His goal is to guide the process of discovering this capacity for change and support clients as change happens.
