About Kelvin Mackey, tLMHC
Kelvin’s career with Life Connections began in June 2020. Kelvin is a temporary licensed mental health counselor (tLMHC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). He provides individual and couples counseling. He provides services in the office and school settings.
Kelvin attended the University of Northern Iowa for his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology with a certificate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Kelvin also obtained his Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Northern Iowa. While in college Kelvin worked as a graduate assistant for the counseling program, assisting in research to help improve mental health issues. Kelvin also worked as a Behavior Intervention Specialist at Highland Elementary in the Waterloo Community School District and held an after school program called Dare to be King. Kelvin completed his practicum-level experience at the University of Northern Iowa Counseling Center, providing individual counseling for college aged students. He completed his internship at UnityPoint Health Blackhawk Grundy Mental Health Center (UPH-BHGMHC). While at UPH-BHGMHC, he provided individual counseling services to four different schools in the Waterloo Community School District. Kelvin has also spoken at two conferences regarding mental health. He spoke at the Iowa Mental Health Counseling Association about twice exceptional and at the American Counseling Association of Iowa about microaggression.
Kelvin works with a wide range of populations from elementary aged students to adults. Kelvin uses a Humanistic approach to build a strong therapeutic relationship with the client, that is assisted with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
